Top Tile Trends For Your Bathroom

Like clothing, interior design fashions and trends come and go. The style of our homes is often an expression of ourselves and tastes often vary from individual to individual. So, how do you know what the top style trends are, leading into the new year? And does it matter?  In this article, we explore the most popular tile trends of the past year, and discuss how they may suit individual tastes.

Designing a bathroom is no easy task.  There are a plethora of selections to choose from across various ranges. However, in 2021, it was clear that tiles are King! And it makes sense, tiles often comprise the majority of a bathroom, and can cover any space – even up to a bathroom’s entire wall, floor, and ceiling!

If you have ever had to choose tiles before, then you will know the decisions are endless.  There are light tiles, dark tiles, patterned tiles; and all of them come in different shapes and styles. With this being said, it is essential that you don’t get bogged down in the details.  Always choose bathroom tiles that YOU love. After all, you are the one that has to live with them!

One of the bathroom floor trends we have seen emerge over this past year, is a tile that looks like hardwood. This tile comes in a range of colour tones to match many wall tiles and looks great for a unique rustic style, or even contemporary look, when teamed with a modern wall tile. You can find these tiles in grainy wood styles, traditional hardwood, mahogany, pine, the list goes on!

But if you are into the ‘safe options’ (not to be confused with boring!) then there are, of course, the use of light shades such as light grays and whites. These tiles can go with everything, and can be great for rounding off more dynamic colours and styles in your bathroom, without too much concern for clashing colours.

Black and white stenciled tiles have also been huge this year. If you like vintage, retro, boho, and farmhouse style bathrooms, then these tiles may be worth having a look at. If used on the floor, these tiles can be complemented with a matte, or gloss, subway wall tile; or used as a wall feature tile on its own.

In terms of styles, matte finishes have really been on the rise. Steering away from the traditional gloss finish. We have seen a significant rise in popularity in the use of matte finishes on almost every surface, including bathroom floors, countertops, and around splashbacks. The great thing about matte tiles, and something to bear in mind if you are somebody with a focus on pragmatism, is that these tiles are easier to maintain and to keep looking clean because they show less dirt and avoid watermarks. Great if you have a couple of messy little ones around the house!

However, if you are into the traditional glossy look, then maybe consider minimising their use to walls, and not the floor, as they can be safer (less slippery), and will attract less dirt and grime.

Lastly, Hexagons, herringbone, and chevron patterns have become hot items of choice this year. In particular, we have seen extensive use of these shaped tiles in bathroom shower floors.

So with all of these tiles in mind, it is time to start choosing! If you are considering a bathroom design and would like some guidance and advice then you have come to the right place. Come into our showroom and speak with one of your friendly staff today.
